Contractor with Building Supplies Sales Experience wanted for Grande Prairie, Alberta.

Our existing client is looking for a Contractor with Building Supplies Sales experience to join their team in Grande Prairie, Alberta.


This role will be responsible for developing/maintaining commercial accounts which will include: being familiar with pricing, local building codes, types of building permits issued, maintaining call references, prospect files, calling on accounts regularly, attending bid openings, preparing quotations, as well as other related duties. This role must perform all assigned tasks w/sufficient speed and accuracy to avoid adverse impact on the level of service to customers and achieve sales profitability.


Job Duties:

  • develop/maintain sales to contractor/commercial accounts.

  • always keeping updated knowledge of pricing of materials.

  • know local building codes.

  • know types of building permits issued.

  • communicate product knowledge to the customer as appropriate.

  • develop/maintain sales call references/prospect lists.

  • know prices, practices and policies of the company's competitors.

  • establish/adhere to a regular schedule of calling on accounts.

  • help customers solve building problems.

  • develop positive working relationships w/building inspectors.

  • attend bid openings and make quotations.

  • be familiar with current yard inventory/surplus items.

  • keep complete/accurate records of expenses.

  • present proposals in a timely manner, after the estimating process is concluded/potential profit has been established.

  • suggest rule/policy/procedural changes when they improve sales, profit, morale, etc.

  • maintain professional confidentiality of all store/customer records.

  • work on additional duties/assignments designated by management.

  • work in a safe manner in accordance to provincial/federal safety legislations.

  • use common sense in all that you say and do.

  • report any potential hazards/unsafe behavior to management in order to have situations corrected.


Skills:

  • must be able to read/interpret/comprehend blueprints, written/printed materials/information presented in numerical/statistical form.

  • must have 2 years contractor sales experience.

  • must be able to communicate - (both oral and written) effectively with all staff, management, suppliers, customers/prospective customers obtaining accurate information for bids/pricing estimates/quotations, etc.

  • have the ability to operate equipment necessary to perform assigned tasks efficiently/safely - computers, vehicles, etc.

  • must possess mathematical skills necessary to prepare accurate/competitive bids in a timely manner.

  • high school education is required or equivalent.

  • ability to work as a part of a team.
